3dcart Review

3dcart is a hosted ecommerce platform that has it all, from store marketing to inventory management and beyond. Here’s my 3dcart review to help you make the right decision for your ecommerce needs.

Their ecommerce platform was first launched in 1997 and has been providing individuals and businesses with an all-in-one online store builder. Today, the shopping cart hosts over 16,000 online stores.

I’ll also be posting a video version of my 3dcart review very soon, so check back often.

Who is 3dcart good for?

There isn’t a restriction on what types of stores can use 3dcart. Their platform is way too versatile that it can host even the largest online stores.

If I had to narrow it down to a specific type of store, I would say it’s best for those that are going to have a strong focus on marketing. Their platform has just about every marketing feature that you can think of.

The only thing that can get in the way is their bandwidth limitations. These days, almost every single hosted cart offers unlimited bandwidth. Sadly, 3dcart isn’t there yet.

Ease of use

The latest 3dcart 7.0 version release brought new upgrades that transformed the platform, starting from their dashboard to a new checkout experience.

Upon signing up and logging into your admin backend, you’re greeted by an easy to follow setup wizard. The wizard guides you through several steps for configuring your store. If you want to complete tasks at your own pace, this wizard can be skipped.

3dcart dashboard

The new admin dashboard may feel overwhelming at first, but it’s fairly easy once you get things going. It’s similar to the WordPress dashboard.

The customer frontend is just as easy. Your customers shouldn’t have any problems navigating around the store and finding items to purchase. The new checkout experience offers a single page checkout that’s optimized for increasing conversions. Customers will be able to checkout as guests, register for an account, or login using their Facebook account.

Design options

3dcart offers both free and premium themes. There are a total of 89 themes of which 61 are completely free. Their premium themes are priced from $129 and up.

Almost all of the free themes are responsive across multiple mobile and tablet devices.

Here are some of the free themes that you’ll be able to use for your store:

3dcart themes

Designing options is an area that 3dcart does exceptionally well. 3dcart allows you to edit your themes using html and css. So if you’re a tech-savvy individual, this is where you’ll be able to make all the necessary coding changes.

If you want to make layout changes, you’ll be able to use their drag-n-drop editor. This is an exceptional tool that almost anyone will be able to use without any problems.

They also feature a WYSIWYG editor that can be used for adding various types of content to your header and footer area.

Abandoned cart saver

This neat little feature is extremely useful if you have a lot of cart abandonments.

Everyone gets access to their abandoned cart saver tool that helps recover sales by sending pre-defined emails to customers that didn’t complete the entire checkout process.

The abandoned cart saver has reporting tools that will give you a breakdown of how much revenue you’ve recovered.

Alternatively, you can send these emails on your own but it will be time consuming.

Apps and extras

Since 3dcart is already a feature-rich ecommerce platform, there’s very little you’ll need to add to your store. However, 3dcart does have an external app store that’ll further extend the functionality of your store.

One thing is for sure, all of the apps have a ridiculously simple integration process.

Some of the apps are free while others require a monthly or yearly subscription fee.

Here are some of the apps you’ll be able to install onto your store:

3dcart apps

Mobile ecommerce

If you read any of my other reviews, you’ve probably seen how much I value a mobile-ready store. If the platform you’re looking at doesn’t have mobile ecommerce, I’d recommend staying far, far away.

Thankfully, 3dcart includes mobile ecommerce with every plan. Their mobile platform is optimized so that your customers view products quickly and efficiently. It works flawlessly on various mobile devices and tablets.

Additionally, almost all of their free themes are responsive across multiple mobile and tablet devices.

You can also download a 3dcart app on your mobile device that’ll allow you to manage your store on the go.

Search engine optimization

The entire platform is fully optimized with the latest search engine optimization practices. 3dcart offers an array of optimization tools to help you get the maximum exposure and outrank your competition on popular search engines. Some of the optimization features I found useful are friendly url’s, meta tags, alt tags, and a sitemap generator.

3dcart offers a fully optimized blogging platform as well that’ll help boost your SEO. You’ll be able to publish blog posts right from your admin dashboard.

Support resources

Their support department is open 24/7 and reachable via phone, live chat, and email ticketing. On top of their traditional human support, you’ll get access to other valuable support resources.

They offer various guides on how to sell online and building an ecommerce website. They also give you access to their ecommerce university that features various posts relating to selling online.

Lastly, you’ll get access to their active community forum where you can get it touch with other 3dcart store owners.

In terms of support, 3dcart is very similar to Pinnacle Cart (see my Pinnacle Cart review). Both platforms have a smaller customer base and are able to provide a very responsive technical support department.

Hosting, security, and backup options

As with all other top ecommerce platforms, web hosting is included with 3dcart. So you don’t have to purchase a separate web hosting account for your store. However, I do recommend purchasing a domain name from NameCheap to help brand your business.

3dcart’s web hosting is optimized for ecommerce. Their hosting servers are very reliable and offer an uptime guarantee of 99.9%. This means that you can expect your online store to always be up and running. Furthermore, 3dcart will automatically update the platform as new features are released without you having to do anything.

3dcart does security very well too. A 256-bit SSL certificate is included with every plan. This certificate helps protect all of the information that’s being transmitted through your website. Their hosting is Level 1 PCI. You’ll also get an ip blocking feature and ftp access to all of your files.

Lastly, 3dcart offers daily backups for all of your store files in the event that you accidentally delete or overwrite something.

3dcart pros

  • From an affiliate program to coupons to multiple ship-to addresses, 3dcart has the necessary features to run and maintain an ecommerce site.
  • 3dcart doesn’t charge any transaction fees, which in return allows you to keep more of your profits.
  • 3dcart has a neat, easy to follow PDF guide for transferring your existing store from a different ecommerce platform.
  • Their platform supports over 90 payment gateways.
  • Clean, user-friendly admin backend and customer frontend.
  • 3dcart is fully integrated with a point of sale system.

3dcart cons

  • Limited bandwidth with each plan, good enough for stores with 2,000 to 50,000 store visits. Bandwidth overage charges are set at $5 per 1,000 visits.
  • 3dcart doesn’t have a built-in recurring billing system. As of right now, you have to purchase a third-party app to enable this option.

Do I recommend 3dcart for ecommerce?

Yes, I recommend 3dcart.

Sure, the platform isn’t perfect and has minor setbacks. But if you’re looking for a reliable shopping cart that’s capable of helping your business grow without breaking your budget, then 3dcart is for you.

Their platform is feature-rich and offers all of the tools necessary to start an online business.

If you’re ready to see what 3dcart can do for your business, head over to 3dcart and start your free trial.
