Shopify Alternatives

Have you outgrown your Shopify store? Are you being limited on what you can do and have to upgrade to a more expensive plan? Regardless of why you’re fed up with Shopify, these Shopify alternatives are worth looking into, can help you transfer your existing store, or assist you with building an online store from scratch.

Why Shopify is bad?

From the eyes of an unexperienced user, Shopify is the next big thing that’s going to be difficult to replace. However, from the point of view of an experience user, it’s going to be very easy to find an alternative to Shopify mainly because their platform limits a lot of the design features necessary to build an online store.

Shopify is a good ecommerce platform but it lacks in the following:

  • Shopify is no longer the cheapest ecommerce platform (the $9/month plan doesn’t give you the option to sell products online). Cheapest plan for selling online is $29/month.
  • You’ll be charged transaction fees if you don’t plan on using their payment gateway.
  • Cheaper plans limit key features such as the ability to use gift cards, real-time shipping rates, and abandoned cart recovery.
  • They use a custom template markup language called liquid. You won’t be able to edit your theme without knowing how to work with liquid.

  1. I am looking for a way to reduce my product prices as the quantity purchased is increased. Volusion does not seem to have a simple way to do that. Can you tell me who can do it?

There is info on the internet saying Shopify can do it. I do not understand how they can do it or if that is true or not.

    1. Roger,

What you’re referring to is wholesale capabilities. For example, your customers will be able to get a better deal if they purchase in bulk. For the best results, I’d recommend looking at 3dcart as they support what you’re looking for.

      Cheers!
